I have entered into a new partnership as a consultant for Columbia Outdoor School with the goal to develop programs that highlight Indigenous history, culture, and current stewardship practices when it comes to the environment, and place-based education.
The programming will align with developmental stages of youth, BC Curriculum Connections, experiential, and land-based education principals.
Students will have the opportunity to learn while connecting to the land, build leadership skills, develop positive self-identity, and share their personal skills and traditional knowledge. I will be building a progressive, culturally aligned curriculum to assist teachers and staff in their outdoor programming.
This will be a living resource that will be delivered by Columbia Outdoor School using streams, wetlands, lakes, and forests near participating schools around the region to aid students and teachers in connecting their students to place while considering and respecting traditional and current Indigenous ways of thinking and doing.
This project is being funded by Columbia Basin Trust, and was featured in the East Kootenay online news website: https://www.e-know.ca/regions/east-kootenay/trust-supports-16-projects-with-nearly-650000/?fbclid=IwAR2rw7UwrcHocZGLw7Ai6TWPin5rUFWPOrl2Pq4BwJNZyE21hZncMUuoCUc
