I am incredibly fortunate to be working alongside such an amazing group of people, and I must give special recognition to my dear friend and colleague Bonnie Harvey, the Governance Coordinator for ʔaq̓am. Bonnie has poured her heart into the Guardians in Training (GIT) program, and her work speaks for itself. She recently created a powerful video summary capturing the incredible journey of the GITs over the past three years, and I am in awe of her dedication and the impact she has had on the youth.

Bonnie is a true leader who leads with love and a deep respect for the culture and community she serves. Her work with the GIT program has been transformative, and I have nothing but admiration and gratitude for her. ¢ǂakiǂ (LOVE) resonates in everything she does, and it’s an honor to be part of this journey together.

Over the past three years, we’ve seen significant milestones in the GIT program—equipping participants with certifications, high school credits, and skills for future careers. We’ve helped nurture the leadership potential of ʔaq̓amnik' youth, connecting them to their culture, community, and land in ways that will serve them (and the land) for years to come.

As we enter the next phase of this transformative journey, we are excited to develop a formalized curriculum as part of the ʔa·knusti Leadership Project. This visionary initiative will empower youth with land-based leadership skills and cultural sensitivity, fully aligned with ʔaq̓am’s Strategic Plan.

We kicked off the school year with a planning retreat at the CMH Galeena Lodge, marking the beginning of another year of growth, connection, and empowerment. I am so proud to be a part of this remarkable work.
