I was once told a story about how hu sukiǂq̓ukni is a word you would use when there's a lot of gratitude. The stars have aligned to provide an unexpected, unreal, and maybe even lifechanging chance. Maybe you're in the middle of no where and your vehicle has broken down and you wouldn't ever think you'd run into someone there... and then you do.
hu sukiǂq̓ukni.
That is the only word I can think to use when I want to say the biggest THANK YOU, and give the most amount of gratitude to Shelby and Bonnie from ʔaq̓am for inviting me to the CMH Galena Lodge in Ktunwakanmituk mi¢qaqs to teach on ʔamakʔis Ktunaxa to Ktunaxa youth about trees, predator habitats, and teambuilding. hu sukiǂq̓ukni to the youth who participated, hung out with me, taught me and shared with me. hu sukiǂq̓ukni to Mrs. Juanita for sharing your knowledge about language, plants and culture so I could better align my lessons for the week. And last but not least hu sukiǂq̓ukni to the ʔaq̓am, KNC, (Carmen) Switch Back, and CMH staff who helped pull this whole thing off flawlessly for the group.
We got to ride in helicopters, hike the alpine AND old growth forests, hangout by the lake, and my favourite- stand on a glacier! The food and accommodations were unreal. The time spent with everyone was so special.
This week is one I will never forget. I am so humbled, grateful and left feeling so full. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
