I was deeply honored to be asked to facilitate the conversation between the ʔaq̓am community's Chief, Council, and Senior Staff and the City of Cranbrook's Mayor, Council, and Senior Staff on October 24th. This opportunity was a direct result of the trusting relationships I have built with both parties over time. To be a part of this critical step toward truth and reconciliation was truly a privilege.

During this day-long session, ʔaq̓am Nasuʔkin Joe Pierre and Council, alongside Mayor Wayne Price and the City of Cranbrook’s Council, gathered to explore common goals and priorities between their communities. The discussion centered on key strategic priorities that affect both groups, focusing on areas such as safety and security, housing, water and infrastructure, and language and culture.

It was incredibly powerful to witness the shared commitment to progress and understanding between the two communities, and I am proud to have played a role in facilitating this dialogue.

This meeting marked a significant step toward collaboration, and I am confident that the conversations sparked that day will continue to build momentum toward a stronger and more unified future for both ʔaq̓am and Cranbrook.

Feedback from Council and Staff Members: Mike Frank, CAO ʔaq’am: ʔaq’am’s experience with Shonna as the facilitator for a government to government training session was excellent. She provided a well though out presentation that captured our needs.

Mike Matejka, Director of Engineering & Development Services City of Cranbrook: “Teams looking to tackle tough issues and find new ways to work together need this type of facilitation. We really felt motivated and optimistic after the session. The atmosphere was great!”

Lynnette Wray, Cranbrook City Councillor: I sincerely appreciate Shonna's authentic, participatory, and flexible approach to group facilitation, including a commitment to an in-depth exploration of the key issues.
